The
Vietnamese first appeared just before the beginning of the Christian
Era as one of many scattered inhabitants in current day China
and Northern Vietnam. Local lore says that the Vietnamese kingdom
of Au Lac was founded by a lineage of legendary kings who had
ruled over the ancient kingdom of Van Lang for thousands of years.
Archeological findings pointed out that the early people of the
Red River delta area might have been among the earliest Asians
to practice agriculture.
