Seven
Kingdoms
Reviewed by Joe Nguyen
Hey all, I'm Joe Nguyen and this is my first installment in what
will be many reviews of some of the hottest games around. I thought
what better way to start than with a strategy game. Of course
the first thing that came to mind was Starcraft, but my fellow
correspondent beat me to it so I'm going with the next best thing,
Seven Kingdoms.
Seven Kingdoms is considered one of the best strategy games on
the market today. Created by Trevor Chan (also the creator of
the smash hit Capitalism), this game combines action, diplomacy,
and critical thinking into a nice, little package that will give
you hours of enjoyment.
You
can choose from one of seven real-life civilizations (Chinese,
Greek, Japanese, Mayan, Norman, Persian, and Vikings) with each
race having a special characteristic for their soldier units.
The nice, but challenging, thing about this game is that each
villager you have has different statistics about them that allows
them to be loyal to you or hate your guts. Also, there is the
act of diplomacy. This is where you must interact with your opponents
(computer or human) to co-exist peacefully or chaotically. **Warning**
Choose your allies VERY carefully! The computer will betray you
if you let your guard down, even at the easiest level. Later in
the game, when you acquire a Scroll of Power, you may build a
Seat of Power that allows you to call on a greater being. Each
race has a greater being they can call on which allows them to
get a little advantage; for example, the Vikings can call on Thor
who would either strike a lightning bolt or cause a tornado at
the player's desired target.
Seven Kingdoms is a product created by Enlight
Software and Interactive
Magic. It has multiplayer capabilities and allows up to seven
people. An upgrade allowing three additional kingdoms can be downloaded
at Interactive Magic's
website. It can be bought in stores now.
Joe's Final Thoughts: If you loved Age of Empires or Civilization
II then this is the game for you. For those who already have the
game, coming out later this summer is Seven Kingdoms II.
