Boulder,
January 1, 2000: The term "Qi Gong" has become reasonably well
known in the West in recent years. However, getting clear, concise
and accurate information has been difficult. Veteran Qi Gong teacher,
Professor Wenzhi Xue, from Beijing, China, at the invitation of
the Boulder based Bohua Tai Chi Club, has agreed to offer a seminar
that will provide an introduction and overview of Qi Gong to all
those interested in gaining a better understanding of this practice.
Qi
Gong is an ancient Chinese internal art that practices breathing
and relaxation, and leads to the improved and enhanced internal
circulation of one's vital energy, "Qi". Much documentation exists
indicating that Qi Gong practice provides significant benefits
to the individual's health and well being.
Professor
Wenzhi Xue is a council member of the Chinese Qi Gong Science
Research Association and of the Qi Gong Committee for the Chinese
Gerontological Society. In addition, she is an advisor for the
Health and Sport Association of Beijing higher education institutes.
Professor Xue has nearly 30 years of experience in Qi Gong and
Tai Chi research and education and is an accomplished teacher
in both arts. She is an official Judge for Chinese national Tai
Chi competitions and regularly serves, as a representative of
the Physical Education Committee of the Beijing Higher Education
Institutes, as a Qi Gong Teacher for visiting international groups.
Professor
Xue has accepted an invitation by the Bohua Tai Chi Club to present
an overview of Qi Gong. Basic concepts, history and current status,
classification of various practicing methods - including differences
and commonalties, effects of Qi Gong on the human body, as well
as typical and fundamental questions of practitioners of Qi Gong
will be discussed. Depending on the interest of the attendees,
introductory classes may be organized at the end of the seminar.
Two
seminars will be offered. One will be given in Chinese only and
one in Chinese with English translation.
- Chinese Language Seminar: Saturday, January 15, 2000, 10:00
A.M. - 12:00 Noon
- Seminar with English Translation: Saturday, January 22,
2000, 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 Noon
Both
seminars will be given at the Creekside Senior Center found on
the northeast corner of Arapahoe Road and 9th Street in Boulder.
The Chinese Language Seminar will cost $10.00 and the Seminar
with English Translation, $15.00. On-site registration will start
at 9:30 and light refreshments will be served subsequent to each
of the Seminars.
The
Bohua Tai Chi Club is part of the Bohua Chinese Language School,
founded in 1995. The Bohua Chinese Language School is a nonprofit
and tax-exempt organization that provides Chinese language classes
to school age children. The Tai Chi Club, itself founded in 1997,
has grown to over 40 members.
