June 3, 1999
The
Cinema Grill was host to this unique event organized by the Aurora
Asian/Pacific Community Partnership and the Denver Film Society
in Cooperation with the City of Aurora. This event is running
in it's second consecutive year offering cultural awareness through
Asian-related film from around the world. This is our first coverage
of the event and we've met many interesting people there. The
opening night showed two movies, An Affair and
Regret to Inform.
An
Affair
Director:
E J-Yong Producer: Oh Jung-Wan
Cast: Lee Mi-Sook, Lee Jung-Jae
E J-Yong was scheduled to appear in person, but unfortunately
had to cancel earlier in the day.
Regret
to Inform
Director:
Barbara Sonneborn shown here with Ron Henderson of the Denver
Film Society
Director
Barbara Sonneborn was on hand to give some background information
about her movie and the climate in which the film was made. The
movie was a ten years effort that weaves together war footage's
from archived sources with new footage's from women of modern
day North Vietnam. The movie tries to show the suffering these
women went through regardless of their political ideology. She
mentioned that this movie had brought about closure for many women
whom she had filmed. The general consensus was that the movie
was well made, but emotion ran high during the questions and answer
session that followed the movie. Many audience members thought
that the movie had a political bent to it and it was "anti-Vietnam
war and anti-American" as described by an audience member
after the show.
Jeff
Seifried (shown left) CO-Chair with Patty Coutts of the Aurora
Asian/Pacific Community Partnership was responsible for this great
cultural event.

After
the screening, live dance entertainment was provided featuring
dance style from China and the Philippines. Here a group of performers
prepares to go on stage.
We
caught some distinguish guests that was in the audience of "Regret
to Inform", the Star and Director of "Portrait of An
Enchantress" Zhongmei Li and Gary Keys. Don't miss their
movie on closing night where Zhongmei will perform after the film.
We caught up with Zhongmei and found out that this will be the
first time she will see the movie.
