Bowlers
on teams of four raced to finish as many game possible,
adding the scores from three of their top-scoring games
together to win the competition and a trophy. In first place
was the team of Anthony Bach, Tim Bach, Nguyen Nguyen and
Chin Nguyen. In second place was the team of Son Ly, John
"Fatdog" Nguyen, Tony Nguyen and Kong Sixivay. In third
place was the team of Minh, Phong, Tam and Tony.
Free
movie passes, free bowling passes, tickets to the Denver
Art Museum, AsiaXpress water bottle holders and candy were
given out during the "Rice Bowl" for things like the first
person to bowl a "turkey", or three strikes in a row, and
the first person to reach a score of 200 in game. Cong Hoang
also won the raffle for a gift certificate for dinner for
two at Benihana's. "I'm going to take all my homies," Hoang
said after he received his prize.
CA/PSA
held "Rice Bowl" to raise money and awareness for their
anti-violence conference being held in the spring for Asian
students, parents, and other concerned community members.
The conference aims to educate Colorado's Asian community
about the growing violence within and motivate and empower
youth to challenge this problem. CA/PSA was formed by local
university students after the tragic death of 17-year-old
Joe Her who was caught in the crossfire of rival Asian gangs
at a Halloween party in 1998.
CA/PSA
will be holding a fundraising basketball tournament in the
spring. CA/PSA hopes that through its fundraising events,
Denver-area Asian youth can have opportunities to gather
with one another in a safe, friendly environment.

Sponsorship
and funding for the tournament was provided by asiaXpress.com,
Subway Sandwitch (Federal & Evans and Sheridan &
Alameda), Sun Glass City in Cub Foods center on S. Wadsworth.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the CA/PSA Asian
Youth Conference to be held in the spring of 2000. For more
information about CA/PSA or the spring conference, please
