Over
50 years ago, the United States and the world were engaged in a catastrophic
world war. Nearly 20,000 Americans of Chinese descent served in the nation’s
armed services. The Organization of Chinese Americans is committed to
ensuring that these Chinese American heroes and their perseverance, sacrifice
and determination are not forgotten.
On
Friday, April 28th, the Organization of Chinese Americans,
Denver Chapter, will be holding a celebration honoring local Chinese American
men and women who served in a wide variety of military and civilian wartime
assignments. The evening will begin with a showing of a new documentary
entitled "We Served with Pride: The Chinese American Experience in
WWII." This documentary reveals for the first time the important
and little known contributions and sacrifices of Chinese Americans in
World War II.
Following
the showing, local Chinese American WWII vets will be given special recognition
as part of this celebration. George Ong, national OCA president, will
be the master of ceremonies. Other national OCA board members and members
of the Business Advisory Council will also be in attendance. Local honorees
