Twelve
members of the Chinese American Council of Colorado braved snow
and wind-chill to be part of this year's Parade of Lights. Parade's
organizers have made repeated requests to CACC to be participants,
but this was the first year that CACC could accept. The CACC group
lent a colorful Chinese dimension to the Parade wearing authentic
period costumes.

| CACC
members in the parade included: Dr.
J. Wey Chen "Chou Dynasty Emperor", Jason Chen "Ching Dynasty
Emperor", Tsuey Hung Chen "Ching Dynasty Concubine", Mea Chung
"Chou Dynasty Noblewoman", Mimi Hsieh "Chou Dynasty Noblewoman",
Jonathan Lee "Chin Dynasty Soldier", Lilly Lee "Famous Historical
Figure, Wang Chiang", Wen Liang Li "Sung Dynasty Civil Official",
Lily Shen "Yuan Dynasty Empress", Richard Shen "Yuan Dynasty
Emperor", I Pin Wang "Han Dynasty Official", and Toya Wonderlight
"Yuan Dynasty Matriarch" |
The
costumes were part of a donation from the Overseas Chinese Commission
of the Taiwanese government. The Commission also gave CACC a traditional
Chinese Lion. Twenty-three costumes and the Chinese Lion are currently
on display at the Aurora Historical Museum through the end of
January.
The
Chinese American Council of Colorado has three goals for the organization
in the upcoming year. These are to promote traditional Chinese
family values, foster the political influence of Chinese Americans,
and work with legislators and others to promote equal rights for
all Asian Americans. For more information about CACC, call Lily
Shen, CACC President, at 303/794-3072.
