Holiday Festivities in Boulder
By John Chin
Jan. 19, 2000

The Bohua Chinese Language School, the Chinese Student and Scholar Association of CU Boulder and the Shaolin Hung Mei Pai Kung Fu Association held the first-ever joint holiday party on Sunday, December 19, 1999 at the Creekside Senior Center in Boulder. Party goers packed the Senior Center. Party organizers, Jiyang Xu, Bohua Principal; Alan Lun, CSSA President; and Shifu Howie Solow, Hung Mei Pai, were pleased with the response to the party and plan on more joint activities in the future.

Over 250 people enjoyed food catered by China Gourmet restaurant followed by a variety of activities. The menu included Beef Tenders, Duck, Peppered Shrimp, Rice Cake with Shredded Pork, Black Mushroom with Chinese Vegetables, Hunan-style Chicken and Steamed Rice.

Following dinner, there was a choice of doing Karaoke, playing games, viewing movies or simply visiting with old and new friends. A highlight was the seminal movie "Shaolin Temple" starring Jet Li in one of his first film appearances.

Shifu Solow announced two important upcoming events. His association is sponsoring seminars on Qi Gong by Professor Wenzhi Xue on January 15th (Chinese) and 22nd (English). Professor Wenzhi Xue is a veteran Tai Chi and Qi Gong teacher, council member of the Chinese Sport and Qi Gong Research Council, director of the Beijing Sport Research Association for Health Care, and an official referee for the Chinese national Tai Chi conference. Professor Wenzhi Xue founded the Bohua Tai Chi Club in the spring of 1997, a part of the Bohua Chinese Language School. The seminar is $15.

Also, Solow announced the launch of the Hung Mei Pai Kung Fu Association website at http://www.shaolinhungmei.com. For more information on Hung Mei Pai Kung Fu activities, you can contact Howie Solow at hsolow@uswest.net or 303/554-1868.
