On his flight back, he was arrested by Thai authorities in U-Tapao, Thailand, on November 17, 2000. Nguyen Van Thang welcomed the attendees and served as the emcee for the event. Sum Cong Nguyen (UNVCC President) welcomed the guests and introduced everyone as they came in.

speakers who spoke on justice and Similar rallies of support were also staged in various parts of the United States where there are many Vietnamese Americans. A printout of a news item by John Gittelsohn entitled "Daring hero gets jail" which was recently published in the Orange County Register in California, described Ly Tong’s daring feat. "Admirers call him "Black Eagle" of "James Bond of Vietnam. The Vietnamese government calls him "a dangerous international terrorist."
