The
Vietnamese Elderly Association held it's annual New Year Celebration
at the All Saints Church in Denver on January 22, 2000. About
400 people showed up to enjoy the festivities. Census 2000 and
local fire stations pitched in to hand out gifts to the young
children who attended.

The
ceremony began with the singer of the US and Former Republic
of Vietnam's anthems and then a moment of silence was given
for the fallen soldiers from the Vietnam War. |

Next,
traditional New Year rituals were performed as flowers and
incense were offered. |
 |
A
Dragon Dance followed, where people gave the dragons money
for good luck. |
 |
The
guests were then treated to a meal and entertainment. |
 |
The
oldest male and female member of the Vietnamese Elderly Association
were honored during a gift ceremony. Mr. Nguyen, the oldest
member, is ninety five years old and still going strong. |
 |
The
ceremony closed with lucky red envelopes passed out to children
and adult alike. |

Honored
guests included Mayor Paul Tauer of Aurora and Mayor
Steve Burkholder Lakewood,
State Treasurer Mike Coffman as well as a hosts of other high
ranking officials. |
