High - Columbine impacted my school. Ribbons were everywhere,
conversations held, and a moment of silence for the remembrance
of all affected by it. Most of math class, we discussed the changes
that were going to be made by the school district, and we shared
information as well. In each of my classes, we had some activity
that used Columbine as an example. It helped us through the day
as well as teach us as we were learning. I asked many fellow students
what they thought about Tuesday's shooting (please remember that
these are only opinions). One 6th grader said, "…I think it's
sick what they did. I feel bad it happened. I'm glad they didn't
kill as many people as they wanted to though." As this student
told me this, I agreed with him, remembering the true intentions
of Harris and Klebold. Another 6th grader said, "I think that
the parents of the kids should have paid attention to their own
children! I mean, they had propane bombs in their garage and guns
in their rooms! How can you not notice that?" What she said did
have a point, that point was to blame the parents for this tragedy,
could they have prevented this? Many of the students I asked had
expressed sorrow and anger.
What
did I think of this? That Tuesday I walked home turned on the
TV and learned the horrible truth of what had happened. It made
me shocked and I sat down, almost unable to support myself. Why
did it happen I thought, and in time I learned the motives. The
feeling to my heart was like a tsunami and a small beach house.
It tore it apart until I couldn't stand it anymore. I also looked
at the e-mail message sent to the police. It turned out that "12Skitzo"
didn't do anything. To close my feelings about Columbine's event,
let us have a moment of silence for everyone.
