AURORA – The Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership is collecting school supplies for local Burmese and Bhutanese refugees.
The partnership is seeking donations of school supplies from members of the community to help refugees attending Aurora Public Schools. Donations can be dropped off at the Partnership staff office, located at Florence Square at 9801 E. Colfax Ave., #200.
“Their (the refugees) state assistance must stretch for all their needs, and food assistance is strictly for food, not paper goods, school supplies, etc.,” said Frankie Anderson, secretary to the Partnership in a letter sent out. “Those who have been here for more than eight months are pretty much on their own.”
Packages should be marked for the appropriate grade levels. The deadline to donate is at the next Partnership meeting, which takes place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 25 in the second floor conference room at MLK Library on 9898 E. Colfax Ave.
