Day Two
Those who survived the first day’s action returned to the courts on the cloudy Sunday morning to try and achieve their goal of winning a title. The second day of singles action also included serving competitions. Van Le hit an astonishing 103 mph serve at the end of the day to overtake the lead in the men’s fastest serve competition, topping Don Romadhon’s previous high of 101 mph. Jennifer Bui leads the women’s fastest serve at 69 mph and AsiaXpress’ very own, yours truly Joe Nguyen, is currently leading the slowest serve competition with an impressive 13 mph serve. The service competitions continue in two weeks at the doubles’ tournament.

In the Junior Girls’ competition, Kathy Dam defeated Linh Cao and Stephanie Tran to win the first title in the event’s history. On the Junior Boys’ side, Brandon Do stopped Andrew Tran 9-7 in their final to win his trophy.

In the Men’s B Bracket, Phuc Nguyen beat Hoa Le in their final to win his first singles title.

In the Women’s Bracket, Three-time defending champion Loan Cao and aXp’s Vie Nguyen each won their respective semi-final bouts to meet each other in a rematch of last year’s final. A long and grueling match that included many long rallies, Loan Cao finally won (6-2, 6-1) and claimed her fourth consecutive title.

The Men’s A Bracket included some big upsets. Three-time defending champion Buu Le was eliminated in his second round match to eventual finalist Tuan Tran. Alex Le, a four-time finalist, was on the brink of elimination in his semifinal match, but down 5-8, he mounted a comeback and won his game. The final had some of the hardest hits and fastest serves of the weekend, and in the end, Le proved that the fifth time’s the charm and was proudly presented with his first aXp singles' title.
