Joe Nguyen, staff writer Sept. 3, 2004 Synopsis Review The opening scene of this movie has some of the most disturbing images I’ve seen in a while. Without giving away too much, it shows the origin of the curse which affects just about every character in the movie by killing them or killing the ones they love.
The strength of this movie relies on its creepy images. The little boy, whom you can see in the picture above my article, stares at you with his cold dead eyes and pale skin. It leaves you with some chills when he comes on the screen, but there’s a far creepier monster that you have to see for yourself. As essential as music is for a horror movie, "Ju-on" just had too much for its own good. At times it feels as if there’s nothing causing suspense except for the music. The story itself was weak and confusing. It follows the curse over the course of 10 years or so (including the origin), but jumping back and forth through time leaves a feeling of confusion about what was happening. It's by no means a great movie, but might be worth a look to check out if you're interested in the genre. This is definitely a film for those who like eerie and creepy images because there are plenty of both. If you’re looking for a good story, I’d say look elsewhere. Joe
