Rush Hour 2
February 9, 2004

Starting off from where the last movie ended, Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) travel to Hong Kong. Carter, who’s on vacation, is dragged around helping Lee work his cases. The duo investigate a series of bombings, leading them to a counterfeiting ring that sends them back to the states.

After watching the original and remembering how good it was last week, I had to watch Rush Hour 2 for this week. Although good, the second was not as great as its predecessor.

Lee: This is my land. Here, I am Michael Jackson and you are Toto.
Carter: You mean Tito! Toto is what we ate for dinner last night!

RH2 uses many of the same jokes from the first movie, which has both its good and bad points. The jokes are still funny as they play off of the first movie, but it feels like they lack the originality and effect that was heard the first time around.

The fight sequences in RH2 are improved from the last one. They are elaborate, longer lasting, and much more fun. The fight on the bamboo sticks brings back to mind how Jackie Chan is supposed to fight.

Zhang Ziyi plays Hu Li, a lethal fighter in the gang. She truly played the part of the evil right-hand man (or woman in this case). She brought a nice flavor to the movie whenever she appears. Tucker, like in the first one, was simply hilarious. He was at his best when they let him adlib instead of making him say written lines.

This was a fun movie. It lacks the originality of the first one, but is still a fun movie. Definitely a movie to check out if you want a good mixture of comedy and action.
